A cat has been reunited with his owner – 13 years after he vanished. Janet Adamowicz was heart broken when her five-year-old tabby cat, Boo, went missing from her home in 2005. She put posters and signs up throughout the neighbourhood, but heard nothing. She got several calls from people who believed they’d found her cat, but none of them were Boo. Janet lost hope to meet her cat again and gave up on looking for Boo. Over the years, she adopted other cats and move on with her life, but she never forget her lost cat and still missed her. Boo was always in the back of her mind.
13 years later, a strange thing happened. She couldn’t quite believe it when she was contacted this year saying that her beloved Boo had been found and identified using his microchip. Janet got a call from a veterinarian 40 miles away in Pocklington, East Yorks, giving her good news about her lost cat. The woman who brought her in told that the cat had been wandering around her neighborhood for a few weeks.
At first, Janet didn’t know they were investigating about Boo. She told the vet that both her current cats, Ollie and Tessie, were safe at home and that she wasn’t missing a cat. But when the vet said her microchip information said she was called Boo, Janet couldn’t believe her ears. She was unable to move for a moment to get this big surprise.
“Boo was very lively as a young kitten and enjoyed the outdoors and adventuring—but would always return home,” says Janet. “We don’t know how she got all those 40 miles, it could have been many number of reasons. She has done well as a 17-year-old cat to last that long as a stray cat—it really is remarkable.”
When Janet drove to the office to see Boo,there was a confusion that the cat would remember her old owner or not, as she’d been separated from her for about three-quarters of her life. It surprised every one when the senior cat took no time to recognized her old owner.
Janet took her lovely cat to the veterinarian for check up and found out that she was absolutely fine, but much older than the last time Janet had brought her to the vet. Then she happily took her kitty home.
“Despite only being five years old, she still remembers me and has been my shadow ever since coming home,” says Janet. “The other two cats are not impressed, but hopefully Boo is finally home for good.”
She let her cat to re-familiarize himself with his home. No one knows exactly where Boo had stayed for over a decade while she was missing, but Janet assumed that she was likely a stray, either catching her own food or being fed by kind strangers.
